OLD MAN, FATEHPUR SIKRI

from A$200.00

A bearded old man taken in the bustling side streets of the Muslim quarter of Fatehpur Sikri, site of Akbar the Great's extraordinary abandoned settlement. (abandoned soon after completion through lack of water)

I was making my way slowly down the crowded main street of the town looking out for possible portrait subjects only to see this guy sitting with his back to the wall in a side alley. He consented to being photographed and I was keen to capture the texture and flow of his head gear and beard whilst maintaining focus on his eyes.

There was some uneasiness in his demeanour that came through them, but I persevered with the portrait, originally in colour. I gave this final image a digital "collodion" treatment for some extra visual texture and emotional impact.
