THE CHHATRIS, ORCHHA, MADHYA PRADESH
The day I planned a dawn shoot for Orchha's 17th century cenotaphs, it was a very cold, misty and atmospheric winter morning, something I hadn’t experienced in India before.
Crossing the narrow fenceless concrete road bridge over the Betwa River to the views on the other side, I shot various angles then climbed a ricketty old fence to search for a more unique view further along the riverbank on some private property. I normally respect private boundaries, but given the state of the fence I felt it was ok to go past it. Besides, there was no one around to ask, so being super early I chanced it and it was worth it. Sometimes it pays off, so I say just go for it and chance my luck. After all, these are often once in a lifetime visits and you want to maximise your possibilities and outcomes for getting unique images while you can regardless of conditions and unforeseen barriers.
The great thing about this particular and rarely seen view is the beautiful symmetry in the arrangement of the cenotaphs.
