MINNAMURRA VOLCANIC BOULDERS AND WAVEWASH

from A$200.00

Minnamurra (lots of fish) is a coastal area south of Sydney near Kiama, a popular coastal town with similar volcanic geology and a well known blow hole. The rounded basalt boulders and half submerged rocks in this shot are the slowly eroded remnants of pillow lavas that erupted into the sea many millions of years ago.

I wasn’t there at either end of the day when I could have extended the exposures in low light to get a sense of the long term erosion that these rocks have been subjected to, so I extended the exposures to 20 seconds in the full midday sun using a big stopper (10 stop ND filter) in conjunction with a polariser to make the composition more graphic.
