FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY

It all started when I had a unique and long awaited opportunity to become a full time assistant in London. On the same day I had the choice to work for either award winning special effects photographer, Ray Massey, or pioneering food photographer, Anthony Blake. After some deliberation I chose Anthony for the opportunities he offered for travel and food work that were closer to my own aspirations in photography. However, I didn’t really start doing food photography myself until I arrived in Australia.

One of my early clients was Murdoch Books. They opened the door for a long career in food photography working on and contributing to more than 30 titles including the iconic Food of France and Food of Italy cookbooks. They involved a 6 week trip through France and Italy where I shot all kinds of food in local produce markets followed by another 6 weeks in my studio constructing sets and shooting traditional recipes.

Cook books were a great way of getting consistent work, something I needed with a young family to support and probably why I continued with specialising in food for so many years. However, I preferred a variety type photo business and went on to do corporate work followed by interiors and gardens for Better Homes & Gardens Magazine and TV show whilst continuing with my editorial food assignments that continue to today.
